保罗•麦克里希指挥的《亨德尔：狄奥多拉》，2009年的《企鹅古典唱片指南》中评鉴为四星。
亨德尔（Handel）晚年的清唱剧创作与晚期的歌剧如出一辙，都开始走强烈抒情的路线，直到他最后几部清唱剧《Susanna》、《Solomon》、《Theodora》也有近20年的光阴，早期和中期那种宏大的悲剧史诗已经逐步让位给抒情性的悲剧，四部战时清唱剧：《Judas Maccabaeus》、《The Occasional Oratrio》、《Joshua》、《Alexander Balus》被认为是高峰，并取得了极大的成功，但形成鲜明反差的是《Theodora》这部1749年的作品所遭受的命运却是凄惨的，1750年3月的首演只持续了三场，1755年重演也只有一场，1759年的重演因为亨德尔的逝世而被取消。面对空空如也的剧院，亨德尔也说了自嘲的话：“对于犹太人来说，这是基督教的故事；对于妇女来说，这又是道德故事。”
指挥家兼大提琴家保罗•麦克里希（Paul McCreesh），1960年5月24日出生于英国伦敦，在曼彻斯特大学念书的时候就创办演奏室内乐合唱团与古乐器的小型乐团，1982年扩编为嘉布里耶利合奏团（Gabrieli Consort & Players），以演奏文艺复兴与巴洛克时期作品为主。由于保罗•麦克里希对17～18世纪音乐的深入研究和多次演奏试验，扩编后的嘉布里耶利合奏团除演出文艺复兴与巴洛克时代作品外，也涉猎18世纪“变革”时期的音乐作品。他们的演奏往往能为作品注入全新而且丰富的创造力与情感，因此在国际乐坛声名鹊起。这套由DG旗下Archiv唱片公司发行的CD版本《Theodora》由保罗•麦克里希指挥，2009年的《企鹅古典唱片指南》中评鉴为四星。
