约翰•菲利普•苏沙（John Philip Sousa）被称为美国“进行曲之王”，其最大贡献在于他自己组织职业的管乐团将管乐带入了美国人民的生活之中。他26岁（1880年）开始担任“The U.S. Marine Band”（美国海军陆战队乐队）的指挥，后来自己组织乐团“The Sousa Professional Band”到美国、欧洲演出，在各级学校推广管乐教育，并且深入社区娱乐大众。
