成军超过四十年，发行超过五十张专辑，由他们委託、或是提献给克罗诺斯四重奏的当代作品为数850首以上。除了葛莱美奖之外，他们还曾贏得流行音乐奖与艾维‧费雪奖的肯定。克罗诺斯四重奏向来都將推广当代音乐视为己任，其中与他们合作最密切的都属今年即將欢度八十大寿的美国「低限主义」大师级作曲家泰瑞‧莱利，至今，克罗诺斯一共委託莱利为他们创作了27首作品，小提琴家大卫‧哈灵顿是克罗诺斯四重奏的创办人与艺术总监，他曾感性地说， 疯狂暴力的世界，莱利的音乐是一股沛然莫之能御的和平力量，同时也为当代音乐家树立高规格的典范。
莱利与克罗诺斯四重奏的合作关係超过卅五年，这套选辑可以视为他们共同戮力打造的里程碑。莱利的音乐元素几乎已经成为克罗诺斯四重奏的语汇词库，而莱利也认为，每次与克罗诺斯四重奏合作的起点，往往都是源自於哈灵顿与他交换创意的对谈。「每次会谈之后我都感到无比兴奋」，莱利表示，「饱满的能量驱使我写下旋律与节奏。」哈灵顿天生具有扮演催化剂的才华，这也是克罗诺斯四重奏在过去四十年里，能够透过源源不绝的创意，激发重大影响力的重要关键
